Well, as many of you probably know by now I have been pounding the 1835 homested which I commonly refer to as the J.A. McDonald home since last year. It has giving me a lot of satisfaction with the pre-1900 finds that I have found....... the oldest being the 1852 LC that I found last July. It has also given me 13 IH's, all in the 1800 range with on key date IH. The oldest has been the 1865 I found last July.

Tonight after diner I decided to go back over and did every signal , good or bad. Keep in mind now that I have 100's , that right, 100's of hours pounding this place. It is a good 3 acres. I have also had other people hunt with me.

Well tonight I was rewarded with just a little treat. An old flat button with no markings. I have found 7 buttons in all. 2 Civil war ( 1 New York cuff) and a large General service coat button, a large flat, a few small ones 4 of the 7 had makers marks. So I guess I just found one of those billions made flat ones tonight. I'll take it. By the way. It was 6 inches down

Thanks for looking Ron

Yeah, it looked real bad last year. No rain. Dry plug spots everywhere ::)

Ron,

Anytime I go out and find a button, even if it is a plain old flat button, I consider it a good outing.

FYI, that looks like a nice example of a cast, lathe-finished tombac button. These types of buttons generally date from the 18th to the early 19th century.

Your's is a very nice find, in nice shape! Here is the one I found a few weeks back. You can see the similarities:

Thanks Neil. It is a little heavy and has a shiny finish. I just thought it was probably just an old buton. Appreciate the info. Like I have said in previous posts, this place has given me lots of pre-1900 finds and no trash. Lots of square nails and some iron from the structures that used to be in the back yard.

That house looks like such an awesome place to hunt!
Maybe you should by it. Then you could scrape off the top foot of topsoil! ;D
I guess you might wanna continue to pound it, before it changes owners.
Congrats on all the good finds there.

Nice thought. It has been for sale for a long time.......... 5 years. 1835 is an old house. Needs some updating too. I love going back to that place. You just never know what you'll find next. I will miss it when it's gone, that's for sure

It's great when owners allow you to continue to hunt as much as you want. I am going back to alot of the places that I have hunted and trying my luck again. Maybe I can grab up an older button like yours. Nice find. Congrats. jgas

Owner lives an hour away. The house has been empty for years but they try to maintain it the best they can
