This Season's Finds Part IV, Large Coppers

This was certainly the best year I have ever had for the large coppers with a total of 37. This included:
3 Canadian Large Cents
2 North Wales tokens
1 King George II
1 King George III
5 unknown colonial coppers
1 1787 Machin's Mills Half penny
1 1788 Mass. copper
23 Large cents including:
3 1798, 3 1802, 1 1805, 1 1807, 1 1816, 1 1817, 1 1818, 3 1820, 1 1821, 1 1825,
1 1827, 1 1828, 1 1829, 1 1835, 1 1845, 1 1847, and 1 1851

Of the total of 37, 23 came from the copper pit I located in August. That was a place I will never forget. Next posting will be the last part and will include the other coins this year. Enjoy the pictures and thank you for looking...Lance

those are some great finds... i have only found one large cent but the area that you are hunting must have some major history.

great to see the past on the forum.

great finds again, Lance

Hey Lance.....Nice collection of coppers, I think finding the coppers are the best time in relic hunting .The other artifacts are just within a swing of the coil ,and you know the silver is someware... Keep on digging John

Most excellent! I have yet to find my first large copper, but I'm still in there pitching! I'm in central Penna, right next to absolutely nowhere, so the sparcity of people in this area back then doesn't help. Finds like yours let me enjoy them vicariously!
Thanks for sharing,

Wow Lance. That's a awesome pile of coppers. The spot were you found 23 must have been a very old hot spot. That's more than most treasure hunters will find in a life time. Your in a great old area. My city is old but you have to go out further to hit some 1700's area's. Plus people in the city are alot different than the people who live in the country. People are nicer out in the country and more trusting. Too much of everything has been built over around here. Your surrounded by undisturbed hsitorical sites and doesn't look like you have much competition.
