1800's Gold Ring! Awesome!

After a day of hunting around some small towns with horrid results me and a friend had all but given up and headed back to the city. We found a small park that looked like it would produce nothing but gave it a shot anyway. After a hour or so I had all but given up after finding mostly clad and was swinging the detector like a madman just for fun when I got a quick hit. It sounded like a screw cap but I decided what the heck i'll investigate......... Well not screwcap but look what popped out!!!! :tongue3:
It is a 9k gold with diamond ring!!! I just about pooped! I just about pooped again when I saw the old british hallmarks. From what I see it is 9k Birmingham England H=1856! Wow! If I am wrong on the hallmark please let me know! Thanks and HH!

Very cool find indeed. Are the inscriptions below the hallmark what give you the date and location??....I cant see them very well.

CONGRATS! That's a beauty of a ring. :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

It seems I can just make out some engraving/scratches that resemble a date?

One VERY Important lesson I'm learning in my detecting career is the BELIEF that you can find something ... doesn't always work but does work eventually with sufficient patience and persistence.

Here are all the etchings off the ring I could find :
TM/NM
GR 1479-22

0/-/-

I am guessing the etches are jewelers repair marks they look like the ones found on watch backs to me.
You can see the same "H" hallmark for the year 1856 here.... http://www.theassayoffice.co.uk/date_letters.html

Congrats on the fine ring. This style, with an inset diamond, and the rays around it, is referred to as a "gypsy ring". I'd get it resized to fit and wear it. Who know what kind of luck it will bring.

A 144 year old gold ring with a diamond deserves to be on the banner. That is a beautiful ring. Congrats on that awesome find.
