    The boys in their youth

And one of his tools was destroyed

I have been waiting for someone to bring that up, something funky about the left one and yes, I can use my imagination and see "numbers". Won't say what I think, but maybe I should play around with the photos and see if I can bring out something to see...

Most likely just irregular marks from when it was made though... But always a nice thought it could be something else. But the other button has not such marks.

    Don,

It has been a while since you have posted finds, but you certainly returned with a great one! When I first looked at the photos, I noticed the possible date as well, but i shrugged it off as just a random mark that plays tricks with the mind. My first thought was "1772". When you enlarged it, I could no longer make it out, which makes me think it is, in fact a trick of the eye. Just my opinion, of course.

I am puzzled why I have found more than 100 buttons this year, including a few collar buttons, but have yet to dig even a half of a set. You are the Cuff link King!

    Congrats on another "banner" find!

Neil, exactly what I saw also, and like I said it could be imagination making that number but nice to know that others had the same or close to same imagination

When I blew up the photo it is harder to make out, which I believe is true of a lot of the hard to read characters on coins and buttons. So here is the negative shot again, reduced in size to 25%......

    Those are cool!

Do you think mine are from a similar era? Well... The ones I used to have? (Sold 'em on ebay a few months ago.... For $5.50.... How bad did I screw up?!)
