Today had to be my best hunting day ever!

My friend Jim called this afternoon to tell me that the city had removed another section of sidewalks downtown.
We had been there yesterday and hunted a small section that had been removed, and the only coin I found was an Indian Head.
I told him I didn't want to go this evening, to go ahead and hunt without me.
He kept after me to join him and MrsTimberwolf told that I should go, so I said OK.
I got off work and before I could get downtown, Jim called to say that there were allready three guys there hunting!
Jim began hunting and I arrived a few minuets later and got started.
As it turns out, two of the hunters were club members and the third hunter was their guest.

I hunted for about an hour and forty-five minutes, finding:

1 Seated Quarter
1 Seated Dime
2 Barber Dimes
2 V Nickles
7 Indian Heads
1 "If You Love Me Grin" pin

The V Nickles and Indian Heads are in pretty poor condition.
I'm not sure what the dates are. I will try to clean the coins and post those pics later.

Here is the area we hunted:

And here is what I found:

I think I will go back tomorrow. ;D

Re: My first Seated Quarter!

Wow, Super finds!! I'm doing the same thing here in Ohio, they are tearing up and replacing sidewalks in my town.

So far I have found 5 IH's and a few wheaties and a really neat thimble with my town's name on it. The best thing I found so far is a 1838 O Seated dime. I'll make a post when I get done hunting all the walks.

Again, Congratulations on all your finds, bet when your buddy calls to hunt again, you will be there before he does. LOL

Re: My first Seated Quarter!

Finally!! Know you've been patiently waiting to hit one of the pre 1900 coins. But the quarter should have been mine...seeing how it was only a few feet away from the coin purse frame. LOL J/K! Glad you were the one to save it from being covered up for another 100 years. :icon_thumleft:
After you left, I pulled out an 1855 Seated dime from the same area along with a tag with the name J. W. Anderson and the number 92 on it along with a couple more V nickels, a suspender buckle, and an IH.

Re: My first Seated Quarter!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. ;D

I will try to get the coins cleaned up a bit tonight.
Some of them are still encrusted with corrosion, and I can not determin most of the dates. :(
I'll post the after pics as soon as I can.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your comments.

I am still trying to clean the Indian Heads and the V Nickles.
I did make another trip to the area yesterday and found one more Indian Head.

Here is the silver coins after cleaning.
The 1892 Barber Dime has an O mint mark.
I don't know if that's good or not. :dontknow:

Congrats on the excellent finds, sometimes they replace the sidewalks so fast, you don't get a chance, good timing on your part !
