Joe and I got permission to hunt a "new" 1700s
property.
Had a GREAT time just bouncing around checking
out the property. We only made a dent in the space
available to hunt.
I found

Silver plated brass Photo frame piece (?)
Very small buckle
Revlon lipstick tube
2 wheaties - 1940, 1953
1941 Mercury
1941 Washington
Well Worn King George II Copper
(you can BARELY make out the bust)

Now, I measured the copper and it falls in the range
too big to be a Regal. At 28.8 mm, it has to be a
Counterfeit. This is the first KG II I have ever found,
but it makes the FIFTH Counterfeit I have found.
My collection is coming along nicely.

Nice going on the copper. I found one exactly that size back in March. It was also very thin with no detail, which makes me think counterfeit as well.

Nice going on the other finds as well!

The size of your KGII Halfpenny does not necessarily indicate a counterfeit. (Weight is more reliable indicator)

Diameters of King George II Halfpence range anywhere in general from 28.5mm to 29.5mm (New with no circulation wear)
Weights of regal KGII Halfpence 145.4grains to 163.9grains (New with no circulation wear)

Farthings range 23mm to 24mm.
Weight range of 69.6 grains to 84.0 grains (again, with not circulation wear)

Thanks, Don. I'm sure the weight is way less, but I will get batteries for my scales
and check it.

Congrats on finding a King George II. Whenever Colonial candy shows up on a hunt, it is a success. :icon_thumleft:
