Hi all,

Today I went to a private yard not too far away that I had checked a few months ago..I wanted to see if I left anything, and aside from a couple of pennies and a quarter by the driveway, no surprises >:(

Since the last time I visited, the house right next door had been vacated :icon_sunny: and there was a sign in the yard with a RE agent's name I recognized (I called him before about another property and the guy actually followed up and called me back). I took a chance and re-introduced myself, and after a little conversation he gave me the go ahead to let me check the yard. I was thrilled to have a chance to hunt yet another untouched private yard in midwestern suburbia ;D

It rained last night which helped digging immensely. The first silver coin I dug was a Washington quarter  and not even a few minutes went by before I dug a silver Rosey :hello2: Then the wheats started showing themselves. The yard was loaded with pennies, but about every 3rd one was a wheat.

The sun came out and shone brightly during my outing, so the humidity and sun combined was really starting to wear me out, but I kept at it. After about an hour, I was getting ready to give up on the hopes of finding any more silver. Just as I was ready to call it a day, I got another dime signal close to a tree in the front yard. I dug and saw a glimmer of silver and thought it was another Rosey, but to my amazement it was a Merc :headbang: I hadn't dug one of those in quite a while! It ended up being my 100th silver coin find

I ended up with 85 coins for the day (52 Memorials, 19 wheats, 1 Canadian cent (1955), a 2 Pence coin about the size of a quarter (Canadian I think), 2 nickels, 4 clad Roosevelt dimes, 1 Merc (1945), 1 silver Rosey (1964), 3 clad quarters and 1 silver quarter (1964). I also found a house key, an old lighter and a couple of rings - one was a toy class ring and the other was a small sterling ring.

WTG Nat!!!

Congrats on hitting a hundred! :occasion14:

That it was a Merc makes it even more special. That silver George is a great find, too!

I found a two newpence coin last year on the sidelines of a soccer field where the adults play. I think it's Brittish.

Thanks for the ID Neil, I had no idea what it was..never seen one before.

Thanks for all the nice replies. I wish I could find multiple silver in every yard I search. It was a fun day.

Thanks! It's truly amazing to me how much silver coinage is still in the ground..hopefully the next generation will get their share so they can realize the excitement of the hobby.

Thanks all

I went back this morning for just about an hour..just found a few pennies, one was a wheat.

I went to another house in the same neighborhood I had also gotten permission to check and found my 101st silver coin - a 1958 Washington quarter  which was the only obsolete coin I found.
