1892 'O' Barber Dime - 1912 V Nickle - Buckle

Hello ALL!

As summer starts to cool a little I got our for a few hours today and came back with a few keepers...

10 minutes in I got a penny / dime signal @ 4-6 inches...

Out pops my 2nd 1800's silver for the year...

Congrats!

Don't even try cleaning that V Nickel. You'll take off whatever detail is left. I ruined my only Shield nickel that way and it looked like yours did... at first. Now it's just a red circle!

Buckle has been identified:

Paul, nice find! As you know, this is a georgian period loop chape off a shoe buckle. The loop chapes are a little harder to date, but as this is fairly simple and heavy, and as well, it is solid brass rather than the newer steel and brass that was coming into style, the statistical odds are probably closer to early or mid 1700's (up to 1770).
