We'll I found what alot of people have been looking a lifetime for a 1877 IHP. I'm thinking begginers luck considering I have only been detecting since April 09. Was hunting a site I have hunted numerous times the last few months and walked over this spot at least a dozen times (Funny how you miss something one day and find it another) about 2" down on a root was my 1st 1877 IHP and it's in great shape for being in the ground so long. Going to send it away to be proffesionally cleaned and slabbed but have no clue who's does it. Any reccomendations? Also got what I believe is a 1886 V Nickel (Key Date) Going to try to clean that up and post the pics as well of that. Hunt produced a 1906 Barber Dime and a 1944P War Nickel. I'm on cloud nine right now. My buddy talks about finding one of these all the time. Worst part is I was using his Ace250 that he's been letting me use since I started (Thanks Bartman). Any suggestions on where to send it to get cleaned and graded?

Excellent, excellent find!!!!......congrats!!!!.........and, as you mention, it's in great shape!!.......I would definately send it to NCS (Numismatic Conservation Service).......it's a division of NGC that handles cleaning and slabbing for "problem" coins.

Again, awesome find!....definitely on my wish list!

HH all!

NICE!!!! It's always great to find something old, but a key date must be awsome. I have yet to find and key dates but I'll keep hunting. Congrats :headbang:

I have come close but close isn't good enough :-\ WTG on finding a key date IH. I know what you mean when you say one day you don't find something then another time you do. I think it's all about the swing and angle

Re: I Found a 1877 Indian Head Penny!!!!

My detector, in my spot, while I'm busy at work. You sure do know how to make a guy feel great :tongue3: Seriously, that is my dream coin. Sad part is we all probably walked over that coin before. I knew you weren't kidding by the sound of your voice. I think that coin has F-VF details, but will grade corroded. Either way, I bet you're on cloud nine. Not to mention a key date V nickel of 1886. I'm a little bias here, but that is a banner hunt IMO.

Re: I Found a 1877 Indian Head Penny!!!!

NCS will clean the coin. They call it conservation I believe. Then you can send it to NGC for grading. NGC recommends this procedure.

You have hit the jackpot my friend!
