In-laws are in town for 4 days. My father in law wanted me to bring him detecting to see how it works. I have been worried thinking well only find clad, but just as we were leaving dug my first large cent. We found it today. Dug it about 3 inches. Its in poor shape, can't see a date, but you can make out the flowing hair. I have been wanting to find a large cent, but never thought it would be this old. I'm on cloud nine. We both couldn't believe it. He thought I planted it at first, which I had been considering. ;D
Thanks for looking.

True Diggin. Thank you all for the comments.
Any suggestions on getting more detail out of this coin? Should I leave it as is?

Thank you Chris. :icon_thumleft:
Is this copper in bad condition? I can't get a date off of it. Is there something I can do to enhance the details that are left? I rubbed olive oil on it, but thats about all I have done.

what is the red coloring on the coin? doesn't look like normal corrosion. Almost looks like paint. Is this a possible counterfit??
