I guess it's silver. I dug it in York Co. S.C. at an old bootlegger cabin. It's the first time I've found a silver coin, if it is. It came out of the ground just as it is in the pic. The date is 1956 and it says L100 and Repvbblica Italiana. I also found an old lighter two buttons , a condom pac w/out the condom and a watzit. Oh yea and a little buckle. Could anyone tell me if it's silver or not, my machine does not have a readout, just beeps.

Can't help you there, don't know anything about the coin. The other picture was blank. But anyway, if it is silver congrats on your find. Alway nice to get that first one.

Nice find! There is a coin just like this with a $60 reserve on E-bay. I found it by Goggling 1956 100 lira coin. Take a look, Yours looks every bit as nice as the one for sale. Again , Great find. keep up the good work. Two Dogs

Very cool finds!!

Here is a link for your coin:

http://www.ilmarengo.com/italia/repubblica/100l.htm

It is apparently made from "acmonital" The best I can find is "acmonital: Italian monetary steel".? ???
I don't think it is silver, but my Italian really sucks, as a matter of fact I don't no any Italian.
Everything I looked up was in Italian except for this site.

More proof it's probably not silver: $0.79 on eBay

Those are Marine buttons. I forget the age of them, but I looked up the same two for some one else before. I'm thinking they were Civil War era. Sorry, don't remember the value either.
Those are not drooped wing buttons. Encase someone tells you that.
Look up CW buttons on ebay and check threw the list of buttons of the Button stores on there. You'll soon spot them. If there lists are under Army navy and so on , look under Marine.

Whats the lighter say? Great finds!!! HH
