1781 Hibernia Colonial Copper , A Button And Poker Money

Hello all went out today for about 6 hours got 1895 Indian head penny. Also dug up some poker money that I thought was cool, although don't know the age of it. Also dug up a nice button and right before I dug the button I dug this colonial copper Overall had a good day. But anyday detecting is a good day.

Out of the hundred or so coppers I found the past 3 years still no Hibernia. Yours is beautuful.

Beautiful button, a bit different than most found! I agree with IP it is without question a 1781 and a great conditioned counterfeit to boot!

Thank you all for the good words. This is my second counterfeit coin found this year at the same location too. I found a 1771 Machin Mills counterfeit in the spring of this year. Does anyone know who made this counterfeit. Oh I changed the date to 1781 in the title too. Thanks again.

Here is a sentence from the Notre Dame site basically answering your question.

Under George III Irish halfpence were produced in 1766, 1769, 1774-1776 and 1781-1782. Numerous counterfeit halfpence circulated, many bearing the dates 1781 and 1782. These counterfeits have usually been thought to have been produced in Birmingham but as John Kleeberg has suggested, it is possible several varieties were produced in Ireland. Many of these coins were shipped to America, for details see the Introduction to Counterfeit British Coppers.
