About 90% of my hunting is in the wooded areas around Chicago and this one particular site
hasn't disappointed me yet

Every time I've hunted this site, I've been fortunate to recover a silver or two and at the worst,
an early Lincoln. But yesterday, was a hunt that I'll always remember.

While working my way through the Buckthorn, I got a solid quarter signal. . . from all angels. . . and
when I started digging, I took a wide birth to avoid several roots that were guarding my target.
After digging a hole about 7" deep and 12" wide, I felt I had all my bases covered so I scanned
the pile of dirt right next to the hole and got a solid repeatable tone.

I pin-pointed my target and saw a silver, reeded edge and the unmistakable arrows clenched within
an eagle's claw and I knew immediately I had found a Barber. I had no clue as to it's date so to
avoid any damaging scratches, I placed it in a plastic container and waited until I got home to reveal
it's date.

It was worth the wait. . . it was the oldest Barber I have ever found :)

Thanks for looking,
watercolor

Flat out the best looking Barber quarter I've seen dug. I was thrilled with the 1911s on my avatar, but that coin is not as nice as yours. The detail on the wing tips is phenomenal. They are the first thing to wear off. Congratulations on the find and the banner.

I like how you(Watercolor) clean
your finds with a "sable" brush...

Nice job! You did well to avoid rubbing and scrubbing like "some" do. It does make a difference. One wrong move can reduce the value by hundreds or thousands depending on the coin. A lovely Barber for your collection.

Yes, a sable brush is what I use to remove any remaining dirt from my silvers after I blast them with hard running water.

Great work! Again, I have to say that your cleaning and recovery methods are First Rate.
