Went out to an old Saw Mill that was part of a mining operation, and ended up digging up a double headed axe and this unusual lead weight. It weighs 1.3 Lbs, it says SIMMONS H'DW'RE CO. ST. LOUIS The site dates between 1896-1910. **** Special Thanks to johnnyi and kenley for helping me I.D. this as a #10 Lead Based Babbit Ingot for use in bearings.**** Happy Hunting....

Thanks for lookin!

Hey thanks for Weighing in guys..... I believe you are correct that this is an ingot of Grade #10 Lead based Babbit. (78-83% Lead Base) I have been scratching my head trying to figure out why there is that big X stamped on the top. Now it makes sense. I am thinking about painting it GOLD and using it as a paperweight.
