Well it started as most this morning(hunts).Got up saw the wind was in a good direction and left.Got to my first place I was going. Got out walked to the water and was looking to see how far the tide was out. Also talking on the cell phone to my dad same time. And looked down an saw these little round pieces, get to in a minute.Started picking them up cause this is a old place and have found some goodies here.So I told him I had to go cause by now I had two hand fulls of them.Went back to the truck and put the first load down.got my detector and walked back through the woods to this place and got envoled in picking them up for awhile.Once I had them all picked up started mding on this place.By the way it is one of the places on the water I can walk to.Usually I check it before I put the boat over.Anyway got done headed back to the truck to put the boat over and head to the other side. Only way to get to that side of the creek. And looked for my keys to open the door and guess what they were there.Just on the other side of a locked door. And wouldn't you know it the skys were starting to get cloudy.I knew we had a chance for showers and was prepared but it was all in the truck. So I tried the drivers door window, wouldn't buge, tried the passenger window not happening, crawled in the back and was tring the slide window on the back glass.Pop she slid open about a freaking foot. And the truck is a extended cab.Well I found out I must be at least 2 foot threw the shoulders cause there was no way in hell I was going to get threw that opening. So then I thought well maybe I can find a limb or something to extend my reach so maybe get the keys out of the ignition. So I was off tring to find something to do it first one was to green.Flexed to much.So I saw a old dead ceder and new how tough they are.Got me a limb from it.Came back reached threw the back and stuck it in a loop on the key chain Also alot of keys on this chain, and hooked in good and pulled.Pop she came. She came right in too the piece that came back on the stick was not what I needed that piece now is in the floor board drivers side.So it was on again here I am back in the middle of nowhere a good 7 miles or so from the first soul goin off. Think I said every four letter word I knew 10 Times over.Anyway it all worked out in the end.I was finaly able to get them hooked on the end of the limb with out even being able to see them.Took awhile but gottem.
About these things I don't know. There not pieces of battery cells I took some shots of the kind I often come across.I thought on the way home maybe centers out of bricks but got home and compared and are to small.I don't have a clue but know this place is to old for the type of red bricks with the holes in them. And is not something anyone threw out recent not that type of place not well known. What has done is wash out of the sand as once I started looking for them I was finding them half burried.I haven't had a day like this in awhile.I hope it is for as long again! :(

Only thing about that is they are hard in your hand but I took one out on the road and scraped it back and fourth and it ground away easy. It's almost like half baked brick. It's the one to the far right in pic 5:dontknow:

What are they made of? It may be some sort of weights for some kind of old scale or balances, Tim

Something hard just to feel but like I said when I took it to the road it ground down really easy and in side seems to be I don't know maybe like half hard clay or something. The other two bigger ones sorta differrent material but I think would do the same thing. They all have a seem on them too down the side like a mold

Looks like deep core drill samples taken by a drill rig. We take samples like this on our state road beds. This is to see if contractors have poured required amounts of concrete and to test compaction.

Here are some close ups of the smaller more uniformed ones and the two bigger ones all have the seems in them. All found in the water so durable enough to take that over the years. And has just showed up cause of the sand being striped from the tide. Were I could see them. As I said some I had to dig them from the clay bank they were in.

Welcome to tnet, and you may have solved your first mystery.gotta say I had not even thought of that.I have never cut one of the mortar shells open but I could see how It could be that. There is a town on the other side that has a show. But it is like miles across to the other side. But some may have came over to this place and done there own thing.
Thanks brus, like I said it's been one of those days for me!
Not all here I don't think! :notworthy:

Yea briankb70,Hey I'm glad you enjoyed it.It is now looking back after a good nights sleep. But man yesterday I don't think much else could go wrong.I had to put some Magyver(probably miss spelled) tactics on that baby.It was a 2007 Nissan Frontier and not ment to be gone through the back window by a 6'4" 210lb person. So went with plan B on that baby! :laughing9:

Just read your humorous post..lol

I used to live just accross the causeway on Atlantic Beach...3rd house on the right from the circle, on the opposite side of the public parking lot, back in the summer of '90...If the house is still there, the old/unused chimney for the old wood burning stove is full from bottom to top w/ crushed beer cans...we had some realy crazy parties there!!!! I really mis that awesome place...too bad I was too focused on partying & having a better time than anyone else around, or I would have broken out my detector & would be posting some of my "best finds" from there!! Espescially knowing the history around there with Blackbeard's house in Beaufort & all of the other history in the area... Do they still allow md's on the fort??? they did when I lived there, but mine was @ my parent's at the time.
