I found this thing in what I think to be a Spanish sight.
It has an eagle with what looks to be a lantern in its beak.
On the back looks like sun rays or some thing. Look like it has fire damage.
It is very hard to photograph front of back. Any help in identifying this thing would be greatly appreciated

This is the back, it is hard to get a good shot. I think it is very old.

Looks to me like you got it IP, you can see the short rays on the back, and the Eagle's head/snake on the front! What an awesome find!! You might try some light electrolysis to clean that up a bit, has worked wonders here for fire damaged Spanish Silver.

Early on in my detecting I was lucky enough to dig a 1777 8 reale, unfortunately it has some fire damage also. That said, when you're still kind of in old silver quarter mode and next thing you know you have an 18th century 8 reale in your hand, that's a good day. I really enjoyed making my digging bud guess what I had found! :D (I wouldn't sell it for $1,000)

Thanks Iron Patch I think you got it. I found 1/2 real in the same area without any damage.
It was my first find with my new xlt: that was a happy day for me as well. I'm still looking
for that 8 real.

Thanks

Dugit mentioned a lantern in the eagle's beak; sorry, I still don't see it. Also the rays on most Mexican coins reach from one side to the other--broken only by an object in the middle, like a Liberty cap. This coin is blank in the area where the rays should continue.
My reference to a snake in the eagle's mouth and rays on the back were not intended to suggest that I saw those images on this coin. It would be nice to see if the coin can be cleaned up.

I am almost sure it is a lantern in its beak. I will clean it up some more
to find out.
The coin is in poor shape it is not round any more, if it ever was. I don't want
to over do it.
