Found us a new Colonial site... Coppers & Buttons

Out for a couple digs with Ironhorse as usual, but the Patriot paid us the visit and stole the thunder, and I guess the lightning too! Man he dug one sweet coin... then a real sweet one 15 minutes later. I think I said "I can't believe that just happened" 6 or 7 times. :D That was after I called him names and said to leave a couple for the good guys. (me) Anyway, enough about that and on to my finds.

I certainly dug my share of targets and did have some decent results, though the coppers were pretty brutal. There's a 1781 Hibernia, 1731 brit. George, a bunch not worth talking about, and a very nice 1696 French Liard. These early Fr. coins very rarely come out in decent readable condition. The buttons I made out a little better on. Dug quite a few in total including a few large ones and one of the best condition I've ever found. Also got a Rev War Royal Provincials pewter pretty busted up, and a nice silver 15th. The last item I believe is a very large lead seal but that's just a guess and it will be going on the what is it forum. >>>> (ID'ed as a Lead toy sun Dial.) The last picture is a group shot of all that was mentioned above plus everything else found. Was a great hunt, one the Patriot deserved after a few not so good ones. He was smiling ear to ear when he left... and I have a funny feeling he'll be back! :laughing7:

PS... Kirk PA... You have no game like that. ;D

Whoa! My kind of hunt...bit of everything. I can't wait to see what Patriot posts!

That Liard is amazing...ever seen a dug one in that condition? I can't remember when but I dug a weaved pattern button the same as yours. Did you dig that at a spot I've been to? Damn, I got to get out...you guys are killing me!

I've dug at least 20 Liards and this is only the 2nd I'll put in a 2x2.

New site today! Good one too.

IP, sounds like we both had great hunts with friends today.

That gilded dandy is a top notch button. I also like the RP and the sunburst button as well.

But of course, the favorite is the sundial.

A Great grouping of finds for you.

Good lord man........i'm speechless. Every time you get out, you manage to find something amazing. The 15th button is probably one of, if not the best military buttons i've ever seen you post. And the liard is in astounding condition. I'll have to have another look at your pics and re-post a few more comments later.

Simply put........well done IP!.

The Patriot stole the show but Ironhorse and I already have our next hunt set. It's where he dug the half reale, it's a field we hunted years ago that had a small site, but just now have we realized there's pockets of old finds almost everywhere. In the next week or so we'll be back to see what's there. Then after that maybe the bean field we've been waiting many weeks for.

The 15th I am very happy with as I am any early military in nice condition. The only thing is it's post Rev War, and pretty sure post 1812, which isn't really relevant with the 15th not having served in that war. If it is 15th Regt. of Foot this would be the history, and I am cool with that and is a nice addition to my collection.

I would guess the backmark fits very well in the 1827-1840 range. "Best Plated"

In 1827 the Fifteenth went to Canada, and served there until 1840, a period embracing the political riots at Quebec and Montreal in 1832 (suffering heavily in the visitation of Asiatic cholera), as well as the insurrection in Lower Canada in 1837-8. The first battalion was sent out to North America at the time of the Trent difficulty in 1861. It served there and in Bermuda until 1870, when it returned home.

Whenever I look at your posts I always think two things - I need a car, and I need more stamina, those all day hunts kill me! Great finds as always! Makes me wanna get out here real soon...
