Prasutagus (land magnet) kindly nosed out some more land for us to do. I ditched work & had a day off to explore it.
It was a large field & I was doing what I always do on new land, trying to find the best place to start gridding. The spectacle buckle with pin was the reason to start gridding & I soon had the biggest Spur Rowel I've ever seen :o Then a hammered which needs research. (Edward I - Sterling Imitation, I think)
Prasutagus joined me for a short period (in fact, the only period I found anything good). Cru'dad came to pick me up just before dark. He did two runs with me & found nothing, so we headed back to the car. Half-way back he got something I've wanted to tick off the list for awhile:
Bronze Roman Votive Cauldron ;D Missing a leg but otherwise a stunning miniture piece 8) 8)

I don't know how we do it with such a short hunt on new land but I hope it continues :headbang:

Re: New Land - Roman Votive Couldron

Nice one Cru :headbang:
You had a better day than I did. Spur Rowel is definitely on my list (any size). All I got was a handfull of Victorian, 1 George 3, 2 roman grots, and a very smooth hammered that barely has a feint long cross and a few pellets. I will swap the lot for your cauldron ;D

To start with the land seemed poor, but with some work & luck we did well.

A bonus is that the hammered is one I need, just IDed its as ED II, Bury St Edmunds mint :icon_thumright:

Nice one Cru, I like that cauldron, I never knew these were available ;D

Isn't "votive" an offering? Would it have had anything in it?

(yes offering) Not anything in it normally unless they wanted to of course. Not sure why it ended up on the high ground where we found it. Only 1 scrappy found further down the slope :icon_scratch:

It's always good to find that coin to fill the gap. I'm just starting, so lots of gaps. But I am not complaining. Once again Well done :icon_thumleft:.

Always cool to see all your found treasure and learn from you Crusader :icon_thumleft:
How can you tell, the rowel is a rowel ? I would have thought one of that size would cause a puncture wound?
Or was it used on 'armoured' horses?

That little cauldron is just amazing, and I'd say bannerable. My vote is in.

I love miniature anything, except breasts, car engines, and bank accounts.

I've got a real full size 16-18th century cauldron hanging in my fireplace that I love, which I found buried in an old barn a few years back. You have no idea the anxiety I had pulling out the dirt slowly from it hoping for a cachรฉ that didn't materialize.
