Well today I went back to the site I found the Counterfeit 8 Reales coin.
I flew solo today and it was quiet. Just one machine hummin.
The finds were slim but I did find some more keepers.

I pounded this site alone for 5 hours today thinking there has got to be some more killer finds here.
It started out fairly slow being BBoy and I had pounded the site fairly hard a day ago.
My first find was the 1900 IH. The only coin found today folks. :(
The rest of the day produced some flat buttons and a what is it or two.
Here are the finds .
Good luck and Happy Hunting.

Re: 8 Reales Site Day 2

I'll take those slim finds anyday. Love all the buttons and the barrel key. I think that's what it's called. :icon_scratch:

Best of all I like the design on the oval piece whatsit. Another one for BB's whatsit post. :)

Randy

What's the thing in the first pic, top left?

Re: 8 Reales Site Day 2

oval whats it looks like a brass stock "peice"--a decrotive part off a gun

psst --your button "treble git - stand colour" -- 1808 to 1821 type back mark * -- a nice artillary type one ( no shank) was for sold for $50.00

The thing on the top left according to the What is it forum say it's a "Quill Pen Holder".
I've never heard of one of those.

Nice two-holer! That one is a little more decorative. Are the holes beveled on the opposite side also?

Re: 8 Reales Site Day 2

I think you need to change your title and add "colonial quill holder".

This is a great find. :)

Even if you didn't find that awesome quill holder, I would still not call that a slim hunt. Look how many buttons you dug. I for one would call that a good day!

I'll say! Change the title, my friend--That is a GREAT find!!! And the barrel tap key is a top notch find too. I have never dug one. I'll bring my tap from the other day the next time we meet, and we'll see if it fits.

That's a great hunt, HB.

I am nominating this one for Banner, since I have Never seen this item posted before--on any finds forum.

I think either the quill holder or the spoon mold should make the banner here. :)

I really like the barrel tap key, HB. All you guys need now is a keg of ale and you're set to go. :laughing9:

That's what I've been thinking all day. It would be awesome to do the research and find the person that lived at that old homesite. We know he was an educated man because he could write. A lot of people at that time probably couldn't. Maybe he was in direct contact with the President. Maybe some of the letters exist today. It would be awesome to display the holder with one of his letters.

Looks like Hill Billy has a lot of work to do. :icon_sunny:

I think your right Randy. Need to find out who lived there so long ago.
