Hi from n/z..I went for a detect below an old forgotten by history armed constabulary site late yesterday and out of a lot of blackberry and hawthorn I dug these two brass whatevers..first hoping they were my first button but alas..they have a hole in them..around the outside it says..W.IPSWICH.LONDON. Im hoping you guys are gonna tell me the W is for war department..the little button in the middle is a funny one for n/z, I got it some distance from the last dig and at four inches this button popped up..It looks like mother of pearl but the little brass emblem in the middle says..GREAT SEAL OF THE STATES OF OKLAHOMA..1807 could this be for real ? and why did it lay under n/z soil !!..love your thoughts guys..cheers des

What does the backmark on the button say?

The 2 outside pieces look like grommets to a tent or tarp. The W. Ipswich is the makers name. The center button is an Oklahoma state seal but I don't think it's very old. If you could post a pic of the back that would help.

Even just a photo of the back could help us date it.

It's not as early as the date printed on it. That is likely a commemorative date of some sort.

I had to look this up but it should have 1907 on it. That is the year that it was admitted as a state.
Thanks buckleboy for jarring my memory with what you said about a commerative date. I'm thinking that button is probably mid1900's but just guessing

Hi Des do you think that this button may come from one of the sailors of "The Great White Fleet" Which visited NZ in 1908 ??
