Absolutely beautiful and it looks very old. I don't know how long it has been since thimbles has been sterling, unless they are collectors.

With a marble stuck in it I would bet that some kid took his mom's thimble out in the yard to play with it. Stuck a marble in there cause it fit and then couldn't get it out. Didn't want to take it back to mom and face the wrath, so just left it out in the yard for you to find.

Is there a maker's mark? The style reminds me of some of the sterling thimbles made by Simons Brothers & Co. Here's their mark:

PBK, I can find no marks other than sterling, the number 7, and a fancy D, all on the side. ffd

It sure is, nice and ornate that is. I've dug a lot of thimbles but never one that good. :thumbsup:
