I've been hunting this old 80 acre corn field for the better part of 30 years. For the first dozen years or so, they'd plow the field in the fall, turning up more coins. But since they've gone to minimum till farming, it doesn't get stirred up very much and our finds are few and far between. My brother and I spent the better part of 6 hours walking up and down the rows, stepping over downed corn stalks and trying to work the coils in between the stalks. It wasn't pretty! But it worked out OK. I only found three old coins today. (I actually found a 1919 Buffalo nickel, but since this place was abandoned in 1888, I won't count it as a fairground find) I did find an 1882 Seated dime, an 1888 IH cent. And my best find, an 1877 Indian cent. I've not done anything to it except rinse it in water. And when I looked in the coin books to see what it was worth, I won't likely try anything stronger than water. Anyway, here it is..... my first 1877 IH cent. Thanks for looking. HH Randy

WOW! That field has been good to you. Congrats on the 1877! What was that site used for prior to farming?

That says it all... persistence. The amount of coil swinging you must have put in is amazing. Would love to see all the coins you've ever dug there, posted in one pic :icon_thumright:

My vote is in too. I'd have it graded and slabbed. The liberty is clearly visible and I feel that despite the little stain on the front (back??) it should grade up there in the 50 or better range. :headbang:

GREAT FIND!!! I found one in the 80's in Petersburg, VA, in the city park. Didn't know anything about cleaning it,
so washed it, rinsed it, and put it in a holder. I have watched my coin steadily disintegrate into a pile of metal.
Send it in quickly, to get it cleaned and slabbed. Let the pros do it. And then you can decide to sell or keep it.
Again, congrats, and welcome to the club.
