Managed to dig this little plate out of the dirt yesterday but at first, has hard to make out what it was. After a bit of cleaning and polish, this is what shined through...

British War of 1812 era drummer back shako plate!!! Was worn on the back of the drummer boys cap so the men behind him could tell who he was. It measures about 1 1/4" x 1 3/4" in size. Little less then a foot away, was a musketball and a bit of pottery. Can't wait to go back when a little more time and search a bit bigger area and see if anything else is hiding there!!

Awesome find! This is the first one I've ever seen or heard of. Have no idea on value or rarity, but I think this one qualifies for a BANNER VOTE by me! Congratulations! Thee Hogge :headbang:

Thanks all and was surprise digging it as kinda out of the way places. As for rarity or value, I am not sure on both counts but would believe since very few drummers, can't be to many out there. Value to know would be nice but just another piece for my collection :hello2:

IH - Thanks dude and I haven't seen one before till now while looking on the net to see 100% on what it was. Still haven't found a exact picture of one there but still looking!!

Now that is a sweet relic, and certainly one that I have never seen before. You must have been jumping out of your seat after you realized what you had. What does the back look like?, i'm curious how it was worn on the back of the cap.
