I have been waiting for the undergrowth to die back on this wooded are I have had my eye on and today was the day. Only had about an hour but managed two keepers, both buttons and the one has an unusual double wire loop on the back I have not come across before. Any help on the type and approx age would be very helpfull. Thanks for looking.
Marty

Often called a birdcage loop, common in France/Europe. That one looks maybe mid 1800s. Usually the buttons I see are domed so that's a little different.

The first button is a flat button. It is civilian but many are found in civil war camps and later sites. It dates about 1810 to 1830
If the other button is copper it might be an American made revolutionary war button.

Nice one Marty. I have seen these in archeological digs, but I don't recall seeing one in the forums.

Fantastic find!
