The ring is all gold with no stones and almost all the details are worn off so the ring has been worn for a very long time.
I have not seen a class ring from the last half of the 20th Century that did't have a stone of some kind.

Have you considered 1798? :laughing9: I hope it is from 1898 though. :icon_thumleft:

Re: Gold Class Ring 1898 = 101 Years old

more likely a college rather than high school class ring .if its 1898-- back then --wealthy folks sent their kids to college (and could afford "gold rings") -- poor working class folks only went to grade school or maybe "high school" at best , then it was off to work for a living --- very few working class families of the turn of the century could afford such a high priced item -- so odds are good its a college class graduation ring --sort of a "see I'm rich --my family sent me to college and I graduated" statement piece---- ps -- 1898 to 2009 is 111 years --check the math. 1898 to 1900 --2 years 1900* (corrected) to 2000 --100 years --2000 to 2009 -- 9 years --- 2 + 100 + 9 = 111 years

You are correct Ivan, my apologies, I left that part out. I doubt there were many if any High Schools selling high school rings..........

thanks for the back up / supporting evidence -- treasure hunter

high school was the peak for the poorer working classes ( often many only got to go to thru basic grade school only )--, poor families often had to drag the kids out of school to support their families and had little money to spare for such frills as a "gold ring" -- college however was for the well to do folks -- a "class ring" meant more than just the year you graduated -- it was indeed a " class" ring -- it meant that your family had the money to sent you to college and that basically you were "upper class"-- only later on as "adverage" americans became richer were the lower / middle class folks able to afford such items as a "high school" class ring for their sons and daughters.

Very nice ring find! Surely looks old, could also be from a military academy, West Point dates to the early 1800s. HH and good luck with the ID, Mike

I checked, "West Point began the collegiate tradition of the class ring, beginning with the class of 1835. The class of 1836 chose no rings, and the class of 1879 had cuff links in lieu of a class ring. Before 1917, cadets could design much of the ring individually, but now only the center stone can be individualized."

Here is sample of the class ring of 1898.....I found a site that has collections of all the class rings for USMA.

Beautiful ring and a neat find but I can't help wondering what make it a class ring? Any names or dates, or the name of a school? Am I missing something? Great find at any rate. Monty

That ring did not get worn like that from pushing papers. Whoever wore it was a worker. It looks like letters on the front, Maybe an N with another in the background.
