Got chance to go to the old Dunbar plantation site that I've been hunting hard as of late. Remembered to take my camera this time to get a few pics of the site. Was hoping to dig something nice while I was there with the camera but the "camera jinx" was on so nothing much to report today. I did dig a 1940 wheat, another modern eagle military button, part of a pocket knife, a nice old hinge, a whats it that might be an old broach/pin, and a few other odds and ends and some tin scrap and junk.
The 1st pic shows the line of oaks that leads back to where the plantation house once stood (3 story house with 3 fire places ... I was told by the property owner).
The 2nd pic shows a view of where the house stood looking back toward the oaks.
The 3rd pic shows the old cemetery located about 200 yards from the house site.
The 4th pic shows the iron I've cleaned from the field and piled on one of the old oak stumps.
The 5th pic is the "Jimbehuntin mobile"
The 6th pic shows the finds I made today at the plantation site.

Sweet pictures of the site. I have to admit, KKC is very cautious of even putting site pictures on this website. You just never know when a vulture will infiltrate your site. :dontknow:

Thanks for the reply Kirk ... I understand your caution about revealing too much site info and I thought hard about it before posting the pics.

Thanks for the reply umrgolf ... the site has given up 3 old coppers so far and no silver and unfortunately the farmer practices no till so this ground may never see a plow again. I will hammer this site every year after harvest though just to see what might pop up (hopefully a nice old silver or two)!

Jim,

We have to deal with no-till as well. I just wish our site that produced 28 coppers this year would ever see the plow again. :'(

Wander a little further away from the house. Figure out where the privy was and the cloths line. Check around and under all those big trees. In very hot weather people propped up under them to cool off. There has to be some good stuff around there someplace. Keep hunting.

Also look for signs of the road or drive to and from the place and any walking paths to other nearby features.

Great looking site, Jim. It looks like prime land for a Spanish cut silver.
