1800's Era Brooch Pin With 25 Stones

Hey everyone, Me and my son got out today for a couple hrs. We went to the cellar holes I am detecting right now. It was slow to start but then 3 ft off the base of a huge pine I got a good solid signal in the 60's on the dfx. I dig down 6 inches and in the pile of dirt I picked up this large brooch with a big blue stone in the middle. These types of relics excite me when they come up. The stuff you don't see every day is what I hunt for.

It is made of pewter and has a gold gilding on it. I would say it is from the 1830's or 40's. It is fully in tacked with pin and all. I got it cleaned up pretty good. But anyone who has cleaned this type of alloy knows it likes to crumble. You have to be real gentle with it.

I got 2 wheat's and a nice flat button with shank. It was nice to get out. I have been in for ten days and didn't get out over the weekend due to family gatherings. The weather here this week is in the mid forties and low 50's. Great weather for detecting.

Thanks for looking

HH Jeremy

Hey Jeremy,
Yes, I would say that is a big score! That is sweet. It looks in good condition. Wonder what it's worth.

I know what you mean about getting out. Nate and I got out last Saturday for about an hour but it was to look for a lady's wedding ring. I am itchin to hit some prime sites....trouble is work. Then the weekend is going back into the 20's to low 30's. :(

Re: 1800's Era Brooch Pin With 25 Stones

Thanks alot everyone. I am not sure Tman looks like some kind of handle to something. I thought a sword at first. But I'm still not sure. The handle is wrapped up in tap.

I know what you mean Mirage. With work weather and other things that need done it's hard to fit detecting in. You guys did a nice thing though by finding the ring. You guys will be rewarded for it in the field.

This pin Mike had to be in a pocket then dropped. It had all the stones plus the pin witch is rare. One stone came out while rinsing it off but nothing super glue couldn't repair. The large pin was lost under a pine tree and never saw alot of rain either. The soil was really rich and black and helped perserve it. It's a oldy and you don't seem to get alot of relics lost by the women. I made a story and display just for this site to keep it documented because the finds are really old. This one will look great added to it.

Thanks for looking everyone

HH Jeremy

Re: 1800's Era Brooch Pin With 25 Stones

No problem. Most of the relics and coins from the spots dated from the late 1700's to mid 1850's. I would have to say older than the 50's for sure though. It looks similar to that art deco era but doesn't match up. If anything I would have to say victorian era. 1850 to 1900. I am no expert but have found alot of relics in my time. Too deep and not the right alloy for the time period.

Very nice finds!! That pin is cool, probably mid 1800's to early 1900's at newest. If its old those stones could be real :o I wonder what the big blue one is...

That's an exciting find. I would research when they started making that kind of pin back. It looks fairly modern.
