Just dug this ring from field very old homestead site. Its copper or brass with nice design, with shield and maybe a flamingo? Any ideas on origin or club, group.

Montauk said:That may be a family crest. Also I think that may be an ostrich. I keyword "ostrich heraldry" & this comes up in Google images. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Ostriches_in_heraldry
The French family/place names Sougy & Bedejun are captioned beneath the arms most closely resembling your ring. Maybe.

Noble or very rich family's in the 19th century tend not to choose Brass when buying rings.

A very grossly impoverished noble family . Just kidding. Crusader is right. It is an old 'kitsch'. Yet a nice curio and a part of social history. I would have been happy with this ring - I am not a snob .
