I joined a metal detecting club at age 10 in 1986 and an older gentleman there gave me a bunch of old coins which have been packed away at my moms for more than 20 years. I lost it in the house and we found the box while I helped my mom move. She put it in a special place all these years. I love her. Here it is, some old coins, not valuable, but priceless to me. I also included a mailer that I received from the club in 1987. I was the only kid that was a member. If anyone knows about some of these coins and value please let me know. I know the USA ones are silver, that's about it.

That is cool. I'm sure you were happy to see them. The other day I was in the loft of my barn looking for something and found a box that had containers of civil war relics I had dug in the 80's. They have been in the loft for about 5 years and I had forgotten about them. There wasn't anything great but it's been cool looking through the stuff.

You MIGHT want to get rid of the address info on there if you still live there, though.

I havent lived there since 87 and i have a different address and last name now, but thanks for the concern.

I have a whole bag of coins my father gave me when I was about 12 or 13. They're not worth much, but number many and a great variety. I'd never part with them.

No, it actually goes back to the local guru who hunted here in the 80s. I was friends with his son, and one evening we ran into him popping coins in the park. Having already been interested in coins seeing that detector in action got the metal detecting seed planted. It's funny, it's probably the last thing his son would do, but it obviously stuck in my brain, though I didn't start until many years later. Even once I did get going I had no idea what was here to be found, and just how good it would be. I'm really the first generation of detectorists doing fields.

What a nice gesture from the old guy way back then (mom, too, for saving the box)! And some very cool coins! I love the Buff nickles and the bicentennial set! I have given away a few CW bullets to kids to get them interested in MDing.

Somewhere at my mom's house is a box of stuff I collected when I was a bank teller in the late 70's - including a roll of steel pennies and roll of Indian head pennies I got from an old lady who was cashing in her coins to buy a lamp. :icon_pirat:

We just haven't been able to find it for a couple of decades... :icon_scratch: :dontknow: :( I KNOW it's there somewhere!

Fantastic selection of finds!!!

The Australian shilling is 50% silver... and New Zealand half crowns are big coins (copper-nickel)! Value-wise... plenty of silver there mate :icon_thumright: Never know what those coins might be worth in the future.

Cheers!
