Hi all- like many of you in the Northern climates I've been having a bit of detecting withdrawl due to the weather...

Well today I arrived home just as the snow started.... which we all know is supposed to be a big'un... :tongue3:

Thinking I may not have the chance to detect for the next week my son and I headed out thinking that we could get an hour or so in before the snow got too deep. ;D We went to a site in the woods we have hit some last fall... its an old homestead that has produced fairly well with some coppers and an old 1/2 reale plus some nice relics.

Well after the 20 minute ATV ride and the additional 5 minute walk, we were pretty cold. :( But undeterred we started to swing away in the then 2 inches of snow.

First thing my son found was that he should have changed the batteries in the Garrett... ::) :'( But he was happy to follow me around and dig some finds. :laughing7:

Since the snow was coming down pretty hard, we didn't stay long.... long enough to find three buttons. One is real interesting - while its only about 1/2"in diameter, it has the head of Lady Liberty in the fashion of a classic head Largie or Half cent and 13 stars surround her. :hello2: When we pulled it out, I thought it was simply another smooth button.... My son discovered the head and I knew we had a keeper. ;D

The other buttons for the day were smooth... one large, one small. The neat thing about the small one is that it still has some remnants of thread in the shank! :o Never did I ever expect to see that!

Well my pictures are not great, but here they are.... the fourth button without the shank was also found at this same site about a week ago. The last picture shows the thread remains in the button.

Nice button :icon_thumleft: Now if we get everybody together and bring a bunch of snow blowers or a big plow we can detect :laughing9:

Patriotic/Commemorative button. Check Alberts PC 6 for a similar one.

Thinking that's banner material. At min. a very cool find.

PC 6 -

a. Head of Liberty facing right. LIBERTY inscribed on cap,13 stars encircling. Blank; 13mm RV 10

It looks very close, and may only be the proportion being the difference if your button is larger than 13mm.

Update... here's a pic.

I agree with Iron Patch, it's Banner Material. :headbang: A Rare button and dedication to Hunt in snow. With the 20 inches we now have, it will be a while till the next hunt ;D. Up DeArmitt's way they just measured 3 feet, wont be any hunting up there for a while either

Nice find! I probably would have had a half-heart attack thinking it was a Capped Bust dime if the top came out first.

Re: Dashing through the snow... found a cool button

Wow what a day... glad this was found yesterday as today it would be not only under the dirt but also 28 inches of new snow! Spent almost the entire day dealing with it.... :-\

Mr. Patch and BedfordBob (via a phone call) thanks for the ID and posting the reference photo.... :icon_thumright:

And thanks to all for the kind words.

That makes three of us... but if it was a capped bust dime I would have settled for it. ;D
