Confederate Navy button found at flea market

bought a bag of buttons today at the flea market and found this in the mix.......I would appreciate any info you may have on this........front is just like the CSN buttons but only has the CN....I have seen a few of the cuff size buttons in my research but so far haven't came acroos a coat size.....back says "COURTNEY & TENNENT CHARLESTON S.C." thanks in advance


What i am looking for is clarification as to the authenticity.......I have had both opinions given....thank you

I can't give you any help, but you might try the What is it? section, and also try the guys over at americanrelichunters.com, they're pretty good with Confederate relics, especially since a lot of them live around NC, SC and GA. Good luck with it!

I forgot to mention that I already posted in the what is it section and the button section first......I knew WHAT it is just wondered if its real or not

That is one fine looking button and in pristine shape too. I wish I would get a find like that

Definitely not the same button as this one. They are quite different if you look at the details.

Tice's book lists three buttons of this design by Courtney and Tennent. 23, 18, 16 mm in diameter.

Two questions. Does the background have lines? Can't tell from the photo. And, what is the diameter of your button.

Only one has the "Charleston S. C" on the back.

If you'll answer the above questions I'll post more about the button.
