1st time out MD(ever) w/new Ace 250

Well here it is my first post of finds.. and not much to report. Tried the in-laws rear yard to get a feel for it, and I found the irrigation water lines! Then a 22 shell which is from my mother in law shooting at blackbirds, and 3 pieces of a shredded aluminium can. I think I need to find a better place.. one without water lines! When it decides to warm back up in Wyoming maybe I can actually dig in the ground a bit better!

Welcome Tina! Not to fret, I went out for a short while today and the only thing I found was trash accompanied by alot of worms on each dig.

for a first hunt it sounds like you did just fine. digging those old shell casings and pipes is more important than you think.it is teaching you how to pinpoint and retrieve targets, and to be able to tell what your new ace is telling you about different targets.when you get pretty good at digging a plug, go to the local school yard and try your luck there. there should be a lot of clad coins and junk around to improve your skills even more. thanks for posting!!

I think residental homes are one of the worst places for a beginner to start. There is always a ton of trash, and it seems to discorage a lot of people... My yard has so much trash in it,, it drives me bonkers....

Hi Tina!

Well, I would say that a person has to start somewhere.

Time, patience, learning, and practicing are the important things to get under your belt right now.

The main thing is to get out there and try....

I use the libraries to help in researching and finding old maps of parks, cities, etc., and then compare them to the way it is now. As you say, when the weather warms up you can get out there and do more, so why not in the mean time collect a list of researched places to go to when that happens?

I will be interested to hear more of your finds on here in the future.
