I found this a few hours ago in a cornfield that I was detecting because I recently found out that my husband's grandmother was born in a house that sat there until the 1980's. I have no idea how old the house was, I just thought it would be fun to find relics belonging to my husbands great grandparents. I was shocked to find this! Just as I pulled it out (basically on the surface) my husband's cousin, who joined me to see if she would like MDing, was getting out of her car, and I said, " I may have found the best thing I've ever found!" Anyway, I couldn't wait to get home to post it, and obviously haven't cleaned it (I'm afraid to), but would appreciate your knowlegeable replies. I will post some other odds and ends after they are cleaned a bit. Thanks for looking!

Well Well Well... It just happens to be I also found one a few days ago... they are similar but not identical... I am finding there are lots of versions of this in each and everyone I have seen they were made a little different.

Its an 1851 Sword Belt plate from ans officers Uniform...I'll post mine... I found mine at a buffalo Hunters Camp in Texas... it was face down and when I flipped it it took .0005 of a second to know what I had! Congratz on your find ... your right it will be the best find you have all year I bet as it will be mine!

thank you, chukers, for your info and great picture (you know how to use your camera :)). Yes, mine is a little different, no wreath on the outside or bottom. Both are lovely- congrats on yours as well!

Hey if you have a Tulip on your camera, try taking a picture with it. It's called a Macro mode. You can take some really nice pictures in this mode and get really close. Also don't use a flash, see if that doesn't help. Here is a link I found on Google: http://www.howtoadvice.com/MacroMode

Really nice find you have there, love to see a better picture. Keep trying I know you will take a great picture using the mode above.

I think it just seems like a lot because you don't notice the 1,000 of us that didn't find one today, last week, last month, or even last year. :)
