Not sure what it is?It is lighter than the real thing and as you can see it has green, patina showing through, brass in it somewhere I guess?

HB dug one this past fall. Nice counterfeit Big 8.

Very cool find, and I'd love to see a better photo of both sides of it.

Cheers,

If contemporary it's a great find. Glad to see it's not 1776 and the dubious bust I'm used to seeing off the modern repros.. I'd be just as happy with a contemp. ctft. as a genuine one, maybe more so.

PS... my friend dug one about 7 years ago. It was pretty rough, and quite disappointing as he has wanted to find an 8 reale, but now that time has gone by I have a much greater appreciation for the coin.

Looking forward to the closer pics. I find it a little odd we're seeing some green, and curious what metal it is. Fingers crossed.

The area he dug it was dripping early, has produced several reales and at least one Capped Bust, and extremely rural.
I too would really like a Counterfeit over the real deal(just one)I am surprised that denomination was not commonly faked?

Can you post both sides? Counterfeit coins are a rarely found treat. Kudos.

Yeah I dug one in the UK, even had the countermarked head of Georgie.

Did you ever clean it? Would look very good. I'd be very happy with that one being I'm big on counterfeits.

only with water. I do like it, but would much rather a real one or better a cob - maybe one day!

I'd be just as happy with it as a genuine one, and more happy than a smalll cob. An 8 reale cob would trump all!
