Dad joined me today & half hunted & half GPSed my finds. Got up early to beat the rain which never came :icon_sunny:
I spent 4 hours digging 120 shotgun cartridges, Dad had 49 & did manage 1 scrappy Roman :laughing7:

Pleased with the near perfect Bronze Roman Ring plus a very nice Coin, Camp Gate Reverse :icon_thumright:

11 Coins plus maybe part of a Roman Bezel to a ring :dontknow:

:headbang:

Well still nice finds, bet you were glad it did not rain. I have searched as I said the forests in England before,
and every time a shotgun cartridge signal turns up (enought times so that I can recognize it 95% of the time), its
just that 5% that drives me crazy. What if I don't look. Well most of the time I clean the site up, because
for the next time I won't hear those anymore and maybe then very good finds. I know you do that too, and
its a good practice. Just stay with the forest or trees, it can produce very good finds. Why, well most people
go away after digging up 169 cartridges!

This will be the last weekend in the Wood, as the cover is growing up & the birds will be nesting. (not sure where we are going tomorrow)

Yeah, I like to clear the site & as you say 95% of the time I know its a cartridge but a couple of times I have been wrong & more than once I have dug a coin in the same hole.

Funny thing happened, after gridding & on the way back to the car I decided to go back over the more productive spot, picked up 1 more & then decided to move a bunch of logs & try under there & bingo got another (I think Dad was thinking I was Crazy) :laughing7:

You've got that right! :o
Yeah, not really used to all the bending/ducking, wrestling with roots & trees hooking my hood & branches pinging up at me etc. Amazing how carefully we needed to do the ground, many coins including that nice one took two people to get (and were up close & tight into the trees). It was under a horizontal growing tree, so Dad had to hold it back whilst I detected & dug.
I enjoy the condition of the stuff I find but the banging of heads & poking in the eyes with twigs I could do without. Far more used to pacing it out in a nice open space. The field connected to this wood is really going to produce some top finds this year :headbang:

This site, which is a new one we are unpicking this year so are unsure of its function (yet) saw many visitors over many hundreds of years, about 350 at the moment (plus those that lived on the site). Only need 1 person to drop 1 coin a year & it adds up. As you say they had no pockets
