Here's this afts. finds, first was a lead medieval token. This was followed by a 17th century traders token, it's not in fantastic condition but it should clean up a little. Looking through the crud it may be a Sheffield in Yorkshire token. The issuer though "if"it is does not seem to be in the book, looks like --bert Hold--. Maybe says Robert Holden ?. Next to appear was a very small medieval lead seal matrix approx 13th century. Finally I uncovered an hammered silver penny, maybe Edward 111,1327-77 it's of the York mint. Sorry the picture is a bit poor, taken using flash under house lights.
Robert.

Nice Finds! I like the half penny.I found a 1669 His Penny Token over here on this side of the pond.It was the tobacco token from Leeds. They are cool and the one I found held up good must be good metal in them!Anyway I know there wasn't much info on them.Never have really learned much about them.Except they are worth a little I guess and the penny type was not made much I don't think :icon_scratch: Anyway Great finds you Got there. :headbang:
Take Care,
Pete :hello:

Pete, never heard of one being found in the states, could be a first :icon_thumright:. The token was issued by Ambrose Ambler and shows a tobacco- roll and pipes. The price for the token in the book 17th century of the British isles and their values, by Michael Dickinson is £85. The book though is a few years old. I posted a nice token from Leeds very recently. 17th century tokens mostly didn't circulate more than a few miles from their place of issue, you probably have the record !!.

Right On,Two that I know of the other was found here in N.C. also. By Archaeologist at the eden house a few miles up the coast from me.But the site I found mine I have since come to conclusion was used to trade tabacco with what I have found from it.Someone posted in my thread about it selling and showed one selling at Christy's aution in 2000 I think thats the year for 180 pounds. At any rate it was fun to find one and learn about them as I had never heard of such till then. It's been one of my favorites ever since.

fantastic token Pete, so that's what a tobacco roll looks like. That may help me, I found this broken token about a month ago. As yet I can't get an id, even Michael Dickinson himself cannot id it. Do you think it may be a tobacco roll Pete. I found it at the same site as the one today.
Robert.

The token will hopefully look good when it is cleaned up :icon_thumright:. Don't forget to post a pic of it then. I have found a few tokens round this way but my oldest was early to mid 1800,s. Funny thing is I was looking on the Waterstones website last night at coin and token books. I would like the 2 hammered coins books at £45 each, guess I will have to do a bit of work ;D. Good finds Rob.

Sure looks like one to me and the 2nd pic. looks like two cross pipes (fairy pipes) I think is what they called them! But I know very little about all the other kinds other then there were many other kinds made in the time frame of 1660's.I do have quite a few web sites on the different types but you probably have them already in your book. And the URLS to them are long and would mess up your post. But if you would like to see them I could PM them to you!
