I lifted this from the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London. (No date given.)

Fisherman's charm. Obverse: St George in a plumed cap and armour, on horseback spearing the dragon. Legend: 'S . GEORGIVS . EQVITUM . PATRONVS.' (St George, Patron of the Knights). Reverse: Port broadside view of a fishing-boat amid waves, its sail bellying out; Christ asleep in the bows, a disciple awaking him, another in the stern. Legend: 'IN TEMPESTATE SECURITAS.' (safety in the storm). Medal worn as a protection against perils at sea, the design based on that of gold ducat coins struck at Kremnitz, Hungary between 1600-1800.

This site has one more like yours with the little ring attachment. Sold for $47.00

Also, keyword 'IN TEMPESTATE SECURITAS' in search & quite a few more listings come up. I think it was a charm that anybody working on the water was happy to wear. Merchant seaman, fisherman, navy.

Dug something similar to that St. George medallion, believe mine is Queen Elizabeth. (Dated 1862 on other side) But that spoon you dug is awesome.
