I had to work today until noon >:( After work I headed back up to the orchard with the newly remodeled 705. I just got the 10"DD coil  Not a real productive hunt, a couple of buckles and what I think is a spent flat button missing the back shank. I got to visit for a while with the owner and he told me of two possible spots on his property that had the original cabin. 1785 seems to be the date that the spot was claimed.
I had to go home and did not think that I would be able to go back this afternoon because of chores, firewood, etc, etc. I guess that I was bugging the MRS. with all of the jabber about when I would be able get back out because she gave me permission to go back :D

I wish that I brought the camera with me..... Small hay field, maybe one acre. This field is for sure the original spot. Brick pieces in every shovel, glass, pottery :headbang:

45 min. hunt gave me 7 buttons (2 tombac) 1822 Coronet Large Cent, a nice pewter spoon that I MURDERED :'( I choped it twice with the shovel :dontknow:
I cant wait to go back and actually take my time. Tonight I just kinda' walked arround at random checking out the field.
This is a pretty long post for me so how about some pics.

Those are some nice finds. The Robinson backmark was used from 1836-1848. I like the coin. Maybe I will find one here someday.

This is the item in the lower right corner in the cleaned up group pic. I am sure that this is not a button. Another copper :dontknow: :help: Pictured with an 1822 LC for thickness. "copper" is the same diameter as the largie too.

Theres another largie for your collection. :icon_thumright: That last one does look like a coin instead of a button. I got about a dozen that look the same way. Best of luck on your next trip out there.

nice finds with the older coppers!
your spoon looks silver, did you notice if there are hall marks to date it as well, they tell a good story as well

VP, the tombacs and other non-backmarked buttons date the site to the late 1700s. The "smooth" artifact is definitely a worn Colonial copper. In the one pic, I think I see the bust of King George III. I can tell you that it is not a button. Buttons were never that thick.

You've got yourself a good early site. Now, pick it of its coppers and relics! You are going to get some goodies from there!

I looked as closely as the ole eyes will let me and I think what you think is a face is nothing but corrosion. I think on that side if anything is there at all it is the date bar line of a KG or William Copper, cannot make out any other detail on either side. Although a possible partial letter is visible cannot tell if it is for sure or not.

Attaching where there MIGHT be a date bar, but when I blew up the photo, the outline of mouth, nose, lips, etc look more like jagged corrosion peeling areas.
I meant to draw the lines a tad longer, sorry, but anyway, see if you think you see a date bar there, making that the reverse side of the coin.

Don, I took some more pics and looked a little harder. The more you blow them up the worse it looks. I think that I am happy calling it a possible KG. Is so, this is my first.

Thanks, VPR
