Flying Eagle!!

Went back to my favorite spot with my Prizm 6T and my brother and his MXT. I found the 1857 Flying Eagle in a area I've hunted before but must of missed it. Love finding old coins but the Fatty IH's/Flying Eagle's always come out of the ground like crap lol. Almost like a nickel due to the fact that there is some nickel content in the coin. Either way I'll take a Flying anyday!!! [cool] Had fun hunting with my brother!!!

Awesome find Woody ! Flying Eagles were only struck for 2 and half years, 1856 - 1858 I believe!

uummmm yea since there was less then 1000 minted in 1856, 1 1856 flying eagle sold for $123,000.00 in 2001 and it wasn't even uncirculated that would be a good find !! you have a better chance of finding a gold coin spill .

I have to agree about the Fatty's coming out of the ground looking like crap. But when you dig one, you know
right away that it is old by the way it feels. I dug a Fatty Flying Eagle this spring and right away I knew it was a fatty. I was really surprised to see that it was a 1857 Flying Eagle. I think I have found 5 or 6 of them. Last year I found two of them in the same week.

Just looked it up. If you found an 1856 worn very badly ,but you can still read the date its worth $4750.00
