The streams and rivers have finally droped enough here to do a little mudlarking ! I went to a large coastal stream that used to have a fair amount of activity focused around a dam and a saw mill scince the early 19th century ! There was also a ship wharf there in its day ! I had a decent day of finds ! The Army Navy civil war token was my 1st keeper find of the day. The chinese cash coin was a pleasant surprise ! ( CAN ANYONE DATE THIS COIN ? ) My 1st one out of the ground whole ! An 1889 Indian , and another blank token were close together ! The cast iron horseshoe Plaque was a good 14 inches down in the mud ! The Mickey Mouse spoon put a smile on my face ! So did the ornate brass knife !! The last finds of the day were the 3 Canada Milita buttons in a tight group about 5 inches down in light gravel. The 2 jacket buttons came out in pretty rough shape ! The cuff button came out whole ! No back marks that I can see . I am hoping to get some info on these buttons as well ! Thanks for looking ! MaineRelic

some nice stuff. Are you sure the pocket knife is brass? It sure came out nice if it is. The 9 looks like a civil war period hat number. They originally had pins in the back but I've dug letters and numbers with holes in them. A B I dug had a small brass screw in it. They same type of screw used in saddles.

Thanks Vayank ! I wondered what that 9 might be off from ! The knife is brass ! Down in wood chips 6 inches under mud ! No oxygen avalable ! The wood chips under the mud come up looking like they are freshly made as well !

You're welcome. the knife is cool. I'm thinking it might be from the mid 1800's. I can't swear to it though.

Those are nice finds.

You got some great sites. The site sounds rough. But those items are perserved nicely. I'd hunt that place often.

Hi MaineRelic,

You've got a decent haul but the knife is a star of the show. And its condition is just incredible :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: It's one of the coolest things I've seen here on Tnet.

Those Chinese coins pop up in the darndest places!I did on average a hundred or more a year, and have only a few 1850 era ones, they are not very common, and odd that the sites I find %90 of mine are all 1850's sites!
