Brownbear invited me out to swing a little. Stopped the kitchen renovations...yay! and met him at an old WW1 era army post. we found bullets and I found what appears to be an old trunk or safe lock hasp. it is brass and heavy as a dog, so i dont think it was on a GI's footlocker. I'm not convinced it is even Army, but with the local, it's had to rule out.

also, I found a 12 guage shotgun shell that has copper casing. now i know they are plastic now, and before paper...but copper?

the inscription on the hasp says:

CMBWP (stamped upper, near hinge)
EAGLE LOCK Co
PAT JULY 26 1898
PAT MAR 22 1910
TERRYVILLE.CONN
U.S.A.

i'm most curious about the CMBWP stamp......

research begins on the net.

pics before and after cleaning.

Beautiful condition, hope you find out more. Looks like it came off a footlocker or trunk of some sort, but just an uneducated opinion.
