I dug this shield nickel today. I am having trouble typing right now. The date is legible..My camera is having trouble picking up the details. Wish my HD camera was working. I have dug 1 shield nickel and 4 V-Nickels from a 20 ft square..Today when this one came out I could see the shield and knew it was a shield Nickel. I had no Idea it was 1 of 16,000 minted..May I introduce you to my best coin to date... I won't be cleaning this one.

Brother, that is a great one!!! I have one that isnt in that good of shape at all and as a matter of fact you can only read the date with water running over it or just berfor it dries and was told it was worth a lot. Aint not telling what yours is worth. Congrats!!! :notworthy: ...d2

Wow, great find! Even in that condition it's probably worth a couple hundred dollars. That's one of the rarest key date coins out there.

Way to go! Per my Redbook worst possible shape and it's worth at least $450.

Pretty good for a nickel.

Thanks Plehbah. I realize it is rare. Everywhere I look online they list as Rare in any condition. Mine is in fairly decent condition. You can still make out details. I'm not going to clean it. I am going to put it in a coin holder and keep it. Do you think if I wanted to I could get a Minelab Etrac by selling the coin? :laughing7: I don't think I will sell it.

Congratuations for a great find. I would keep hunting the dickens out of that site. Looks like it is paying off, in a big way.
Also, I would seriously consider sending it in the the pros - the cleaning/grading bunch - and let them do their pro thing on
it, and slab it, and once they do that, then the skies the limit......seriously. You have a coin that every one of the serious
collectors of U.S. coins would like to have. And, having it cleaned by pros, and slabbed, will preserve it in the best condition
that is possible. It will cost you a little to do it. But, it will pay huge dividends in the future.
Again, whatever you decide, you have found a most sought-after coin.

I think I will just keep it like it is. I would be nervous about sending it off. It would pass through to many hands. I can still see details on the coin. I have a couple of pictures of it. That is all I need.
