Good Day Just Being Out

Last Tuesday my good friend that I just met not to long ago had a great day just being in the sun shine. We had a man pull up to show us an cannon ball and led us to the site where he said his son found it. We went back to it on Tuesday and I dug for about 2 hours with nothing to show but being dirty. Still I had a smile on my face for just being out finally doing some M/Ding. It has been a long winter and I have been busy. I talked it over with my wife/friend and came up with a way for me to buy a better metal detector, But I will have to work two extra days at work. Where I work I work for 24 hours at a time (fireman) and that means pulling 48 or more hours straight in a row. So what I need from all of you is some information on different Metal Detectors and I will be looking too. I will have about 900 bucks to spend total, so I do not want to buy junk. SO if any of you have info. to give all is welcome.

its been a long time for me too. i have been showing some of my finds from years ago. i have a new dfx and only hunted a few times with it. I'm trying to learn this new md. I'm going out sat , were i found a lot of stuff with my old xlt. good luck to you

I would strongly suggest the Minelab Quattro. It's new technology in the private sector market for metal detecting is above most. It uses "FBS" (full band spectrum frequencies) where most other detectors use only one or two frequencies. This is not the easiest to master, but if you keep at it I believe it will out perform any detector in it's class. This is only my opinion, I know the White's & Garret's detectors are very good also.

with $900 you are going to have a lot of choices. some of them very very good choices! if i were you i would go to the various detector company websites and start ordering catalogs. (whites,fisher,minelab,garrett,tesoro). check out what they have to offer.any of those companies will produce awesome machines in that price range. i have my favorites but everyone has thier own favorites! im not even going to mention mine,picking a detector is really going to come down to what you want in a machine and what you like in the machines layout. (complicated vs easy and everything in between).ive said it before and ill say it again,when i was looking for detectors i learned that all of the major manufacturers top of the line machines are really close in performance. the major differances are in the way the controls are layed out, and how much versatility and adjustability you want. if you stick with the major brands, in your price range, its gonna be hard to go wrong. theres some great machines available! good luck!

James, Welcome To The Forum, I Use A Whites DFX and think its Great. I know First Hand About Those 48's Have Pulled a Lot Of Them in The Past 35yrs, But Not Much Longer I Am Retiring in Sept. Best of Luck & Good Hunting. trk5capt... 8)

That's great that you're getting a new detector James. The only advice I would give is to check out the manufacturer's sites, read reviews by the users and, most important, go to a dealer and try out the ones you're thinking of before you buy it. You'll be spending a lot of time with the machine, so drive before you buy. Here are some links...

Tough choice, many good detectors out there. Think I would like to try a Minelab Xterra 50. Light weight are one of the options my next detector will have. I have a White's XLT, Fisher CZ7A and an old Garrett MH5. With $900 you might get a detector and some accessories like an extra coil and a pinpointer. Good luck with your choice and HH, Mike

Getting out and having a good time is what it's all about, WTG!!!
The only machine I actually know anything about is the Cz3D by Fisher..
It is a great machine and will definitley go deep. The only problem I can find with it, is that it does love small pieces of iron but with a little practice, you can usually tell the iron from the silver...
Most of the time if I'm not sure I'll dig it anyway...

Welcome James, yep I know about them 24-48's. Spent 28 years on the fire dept. in Fla. Now retired moved to N.C. and enjoy the finer things in life. I have a Whites and a Bounty Hunter, like them both. Just do a lot of research, you will find one that meets your needs. Good luck
