I got the watch cleaned up a little better using water and a toothpick.I googled elgin and found a site that says the serial # inside the back will tell the date of manufacture. After cleaning I saw how to open and did so.The backplate says 10K rolled gold plate. The serial # is 12781583 which according to the scale on the web site dates it at 1906!!! It actually cleaned pretty good and as you can see in the pics the mechanisms are not in bad shape at all.I will post all of the pics on this one.The 1st two pics were when I dug it on Sunday. The 2nd two are after cleaning awhile today.

Thanx for lookin, jimmy

Thanx for the replies all! I have to say that I blunted the end of a toothpick and keep dipping it it water and rubbin. I apparently rubbed TOO hard on the second hand where the heavy rust was .It rubbed away the some of the numbers and marks >:( Oh well; none of my finds are for sale anyway ;D.
