That is one nice-looking SLQ.....and a great date to find. XF sounds right to me. Not much wear on that one.

Re: 1921 SLQ - key date

In James F. Ruddy's Photograde, there are separate criteria for grading different dates of SLQ's. Written criteria for EF-40 are:
"Obverse: Liberty's right knee and the tip of breast will show slight wear.
Reverse: All the feathers will show but will be worn on the high spots."

Details of head, shield, and primary feathers of eagle's left wing reverse suggest this might grade EF-45 or higher. At this level of quality, probably best to have PCGS grade and authenticate it in order to get maximum resale value. ANACS would be my second grading choice.

This is a banner find. Key date SLQ in this shape is an awsome find. You get my vote.

Nice find. A key date in great shape is quite rare, especially a SLQ, where just having a date is pretty rare.

    Congrats on the Banner.

Re: 1921 SLQ - key date

    Congratulations, my friend!

I too, was lucky enough to find a 1921, deep in a forest, in the middle of nowhere! It wasn't in the condition yours is in, but it had a readable date! You can see it in the picture under my username.

A great find...and once again, congrats!

BANNER for sure, awesome condition for a dug coin, but opinion is the matter here and a professional one is needed,I agree with most 600.00 or better coin that is rarely found in lower grade let alone that beauty. Congrats Hardrock

Wonderful find! Check out this pictorial grading site:

    http://coinauctionshelp.com/how_to_g..._quarters.html

It looks to me to be about a EF-45 from their pictures. The breast plate mesh can be seen on your coin and all the detail in your shield. That starts with the EF on this web site.

Re: 1921 SLQ - key date

Heck...any Standing Liberty Quarter with a date on it should be a banner! But when they are as nice as this one and as significant as well, banner is just formality. Pretty, EF coin. Don't know if you'd want it slabbed or not. Not a bad day's labor, although if it were me it would only get out of my possession when the last clod of dirt was thrown on me.

    Congrats...you have one great find.
