1738 George II Half Penny & more silver

Went back to the old park yesterday morning.. ended up being a decent day with cool breezes...
The first couple hours went pretty slow with very little finds, so I headed back to an area I did last week and detected it again going the opposite grid.
My big find for the day was a 1738 George II Half Penny, along with a few wheaties, 1941S mercury, 1944 Mercury, 1951 Rosie, and an old cuff link.

It's nice when you can get a date off of those oldies. It seems like no matter what condition mine are in, the date is always the part that has the corrosion.

My last one had a very low VDI, I think in the 50's so it really fooled me. I think it has a high lead content. Did yours sound like a sweet copper or were you fooled?

It was pretty shallow 3.5" and it bounced between quarter and 1/2 dollar, but I've had deep ones come up with low vdi & nail readings

I think the black stone carving of that cuff-link is pretty old.
It could be as early as late 18th or early 19th century! :icon_scratch:
Might be worth investigating further with a jeweler and having it cleaned professionally. :icon_thumright:
