Can I make it "This weeks finds?" Another piano raid

Every year in July I attend a church camp near Mahaffey, PA. There are actually old pictures of the camp in the Pennsylvania Old Photo section of TNet. Before going, I research sites to make my hunts more efficient, though this year one site was a revisit. Last year, I discovered an abandoned church that was built in 1895. Inside were the remains of an old piano; years of animal nesting, water and other elements have destroyed the instrument, but that doesn't mean its secrets weren't protected. Last year, I found a buffalo nickel inside the piano, on its floor. From experience, I knew that other parts of the piano should be hiding treasure, so I came prepared. Wooden piece in front of the keys - Bingo! On their sides were this 1927 Merc and three wheats: 1914, 18 and 20D. If only that 14 had a D on it ! In the back of the piano, resting where unfortunate children lost them years ago, were five marbles, pictured, including three that were clay. I usually have to dig 1-2 privies to find three clays and here they were!
I'm afraid that when I go back next year, the church might have collapsed; there is a two-seat privy outside that I'd love to get to the bottom of someday. I did some detecting on the outskirts of our camp, but managed only a small handful of modern coinage; there is an area where smokers have gathered over the years, but they forgot to drop their silver. On to the other sites. At the first, I came across two old-timers doing some masonry work and they were happy to let me ply my trade; one, in fact, has a White's of his own but has never found silver. I told him that I'd find him some. I did, in the form of a 1958 Rosey, so I don't have it's picture. The site did yield two old wheats (17 and a holed 18). Another site coughed up this 19 wheat, and the last site gave up an 1864 Indian head, an 1893 V nickel and a 1905O Barber dime. Not bad for a series of short hunts; I did have child responsibilities and some speakers I wanted to hear. The heat was also incredible this week! Not a bad assortment for someone who hasn't been out nearly as much as he'd like, or used to be.

Congratulations halfdime on taking the initiative to investigate the old piano further. Now I'm going to have to look inside of every old piano that I see too!
