It's true.

I was hunting a park today for a couple of hours and I was feeling beat from the heat and totally annoyed at the 100+ teenagers running around, playing a game (I was there first), so I moved to another part of the park and hunted for probably an hour or so. I was drenched and wasn't really finding much so I walked back to where my bag was next to a big tree. Before I call it quits for the day, I usually dig one last good signal so I figured I'd do just that. I looked at the ground next to my bag and saw 3 condom wrappers and I thought 'someone had a good time', then I thought hell, they might have dropped something during their roll in the hay... Just as I was about to start swinging the detector, I looked down and saw a ring :o. I sat ther for a second in amazement, then grabbed it. I saw that it had a stamp on the inside and there were glittering stones on it but I just dropped it in my pocket knowing that I'd look at it when I got home.

When I got home I looked at the ring through a loupe and saw a 10K stamp on it. There's also 5 stones but I have no clue if these are diamonds or not??? I will definitely be bringing this to a jeweler on monday for confirmation.

Update: The diamonds are real

Total ground score... Made my day

Nice 10K ring. Sounds a lot like Quarry hill park.

Considering what you found, I think it's safe to say it wasn't a shotgun wedding ring :D

Heck yeah those are diamonds! They are small, so no doubt they are real.
I am guessing that with the condom wrappers nearby, that all the bouncing around dislodged the ring off of the hand. ((Wink!))

I know basically nothing about jewelry unless I see a stamp but I figured the same thing on the stones since they were so small. Going out of town today to a small town festival but I'll bring the ring and stop into a jeweler if I see one and have them give a look.

On this one, I'm gonna have to be the glass is half full kinda guy.
Due to the fact it's a 10k gold ring, I would be extremely surprised
if they were real diamonds, regardless of the size of the stones. But,
real or not, it's a very nice ring.

Ya know, I didn't make it into a jeweler today but I also think that you may be correct.

BUT, maybe the person spent all of their money on the damonds and could only afford a 10K ring... huh??

I'll have to bring it in on Monday I guess, since Sunday is a day of rest, I mean hunting. :icon_pirat:

Hell yeah..

I generally end every hunt by digging one last signal, whatever it may be. This one ended with a nice ground score ;D

Nice ring.

I take close up pics by putting a jewelers 10X loupe in front of my camera lens , NO FLASH. Or you can use a magnify glass too..

Re: Condom wrappers lead to first Gold Ring, 10K (possible diamonds)

Well, I just brought the ring into 2 different jewellers.

It turns out that they ARE diamonds but very tiny ones. The ring has a total of 5, single-cut.

I was told that the ring is approximately 35 years old and if I had it cleaned up and sized it would be worth around $100-$120 in "todays" market.

So I guess I not only found my first gold ring, I also found my first diamond ring

Oh, and it's stamped AFJC which stands for Alamode Fashion Jewelry Company
