Been without a laptop for a few days so this is gonna be a longer post. I had 3 hunts this past week with some success.
First I tried locating a home site that dated back to 1720. I found the grave stones of the owners last week so I started scanning the area to find evidence of the home site. within 50 yards of the stones I started finding old square nails that were rusted to about nothing so I started to concentrate my efforts around this spot. Found the bullet and what I think is a small bale seal (on top of the quarter) and clay insulator. The vegetation was pretty thick at this spot so I hunted for only 2 hours and called it, hopefully someone can date the bale seal to see if I'm on the right track. While looking at 1930's aerial images I noticed there was a building nearby at one point so I went to investigate. Found the foundation (see picture) but can't tell if it was a barn or house. I didnt find much around it, it was REALLY thick but think I found a percussion cap?
Second hunt, went back to one of my favorite cellar holes where I found that navy buckle. Found some cools stuff including a skeleton key, decorative brass, larger bale seal, old johnson and johnson liquid soap top, and old spoons. Bale seal says limited in the middle and union on the outside.
Last hunt, went back to the same cellar hole for a few but wasnt doing too well (gotta go back with my new 5" excellerator) Remembered seeing some buildings further in the woods while looking at old aerial photos so did some offroading with the truck. Found a large foundation so I did some poking around for a few minutes but didnt find much. Was about to go home but noticed a massive tree up the dirt trail. Drove by it looking for more foundation, but didnt find any so on the way back I took another look at the tree. I didnt even turn my truck off, hopped out not expecting much and dug 5 coins in a 3 foot square including my first barber and first buff. The wheaties are a 1910, 1919, and a 1935. The Buff has a date but I can't make it out yet, and the Barber's an 1892 no mint mark.
It's been a good few hunts and I'm going out again today, I hope you enjoy the pics
