Finally got a break in the weather here in Mass...Took full advantage this weekend...Me and my hunting buddy headed out to one of our colonial spots...We did very well on saturday...not so good on sunday...We found some sweet buttons and coins and relics...I found the silver watch in the middle of nowhere...im positive its a hunters drop..I found a complete knee buckle a nice spur...sweet buttons...And some nice georgies..My first counter stamp..It says 1782 stamped on the face :icon_thumleft: It felt great to get out with no 90 degree heat...I got a sweet signal, started to dig and Got attacked by BEE'S...they had a nest in the ground..I got stung 6 to 8 times OUCH.

That's a great group of finds. My first decent find was a silver pocket watch found in the middle of nowhere.

Have you opened up the watch to see what it says inside?

Great finds. That watch sure cleaned up well.

Love them coppers.

This break in the heat sure has been nice. Glad you were able to take full advantage of it.

I really like the spur and the buckle as well :icon_thumright:

That is one great site you have there, very colonial period, the watch seems a little later in date, but not much

Are you sure it doesn't say 1789! That's not a typical government or merchant type stamp but would fit right in with someone celebrating George Washington's Inauguration! A countermark was used to change it's value, use, or purpose, and in this case a 1789 stamp over the head of George II could symbolize the defeat of the British while celebrating America. Now if it's 1782.... That's the year between 1781 and 1783, but still neat. ;D

Man Elgin made a lot of watches, your knee buckle rocks, the spur is cool too, and George coppers are always a welcome site. (oh and i like old buttons too)

PS.... 1789 is also relevant to the history of King George III. April 23rd, 1789 was proclaimed General Thanksgiving after George III recovered from being very ill. This was where the term "Long live the King" was either created, or made popular. So in this case a 1789 stamp on a British coin could be celebrating that. But if it's 1782, you're probably trying to make it a 9 by now! :laughing7:

Great hunt! To me the date looks like 1783 with the "3" being upside down and backwards. Hey IP.....Is the Backwards "3" worth anything? :laughing9: Nice finds Brian.............Hogge :headbang:
